The Secret Dangers of Sitting

The average american spends ¼ of their day sitting. Seems over exaggerated, but six hours of sitting a day is fairly accurate for many americans. Ends up that sitting for long periods of  time can cause some serious hidden risks.

  1. Shorter Life Span

Sitting for long periods of time can reduce your lifespan. According to a 2011 study, reducing your sitting time to three hours a day opposed to six, can increase your lifespan up to two years.

  1. Higher Risk of Cancer

A study conducted in 2011 found that 49,000 cases of breast cancer and 43,000  cases of  colon cancer are caused in part by over-sitting.

  1. Higher Risk of Cardiac Health Problems

The Mayo Clinic found that prolonged sitting can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease and other related cardiac issues by 125%.

To combat these risks all you have to do is reduce your sitting time. You can invest in a standing desk, take regular breaks every half-hour, or just get moving!

Do note that this is prolonged sitting, sitting to recover from activity or just to take a break is fine.

True or False: It is fairly easy to sex a skeleton.
